"The system taught me to be resilient and self-reliant."

Ashley Lizarraga shares #HerStory:

"The most challenging experience in foster care for me was the separation from my siblings. I entered the foster care system at the age of one and was eventually adopted at the age of six but I was separated from all my siblings. I knew I had siblings but I was never able to connect with them and formulate a relationship until I was 18 years old.

When I was emancipating from the foster care system, I definitely think I needed mental health resources and college access resources during high school.

Piece of advice- Never give up. Even though times are hard, there is a light at the end of the tunnel."
