Marketing & Community Engagement Associate

Foster Nation believes that no one should be held back by the circumstances they were born into. Our mission is to empower foster youth to become self-sufficient adults through transformative mentorship and critical resources. We believe that one meaningful connection—one spark—can make all the difference, reminding foster youth that they belong, they matter, and they are not alone.

We are looking for an ambitious, high-energy Marketing & Community Engagement Associate to help us scale our impact. This is a role designed for an early-career professional who is ready to lean into partnership activation, social media storytelling, and event execution.

About the Role

As the Marketing & Community Engagement Associate, you are an "Engagement Officer" on the ground in Los Angeles. You will bridge the gap between digital storytelling and real-world connection. Your mission is to use social media to expand our reach, find new sparks (partners, donors, and youth), and show up at our events to ensure those connections catch fire.

This role is for someone who balances drafting a compelling post in the morning, leading the energy at a youth meet-up in the afternoon, and identifying a potential corporate sponsor by the evening. You will help us build the systems and stories that allow us to reach thousands more foster youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Media Strategy & Growth: You will own the day-to-day operations of Foster Nation’s social accounts, moving beyond "posting" to "building a movement." You will create a monthly content calendar that builds a compelling story around our work.

  • Content Creation: You will develop written and digital content, including newsletters, slide decks, and graphics using tools like Figma or Canva. You will capture the magic of our work in real-time to show donors and the community the impact we are making.

  • Partnership & Sponsor Activation: You will leverage social media, event interactions, and general marketing channels to identify and initiate new collaborative partnerships. You will act as the initial point of connection for potential donors and sponsors, qualifying leads to be handed off to the leadership team.

  • Community Engagement & Event Support: You will be present at every Los Angeles event, supporting the "run of show" and acting as a lead engagement officer. You will curate spaces for foster youth that feel authentic and safe, ensuring our events move the business forward through great storytelling.

  • Brand Scaling: You will help document our engagement "playbook"—identifying what works in LA so we can eventually replicate our success in other communities as we grow.

Qualifications & Requirements

We seek a highly motivated individual prepared for a long-term commitment to our mission of leveling the playing field for foster youth.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in marketing, social media management, and community organizing.

  • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to treating everyone with dignity and empowering foster youth to live their best lives.

  • Storytelling Skills: You understand how to use video and text to make people feel something. You are comfortable being both behind and in front of the camera. As we look to attract new funders and participants into our network, you will build trust in our programming through your storytelling.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Canva, Figma, Constant Contact (or similar email marketing platforms), and social media analytics; ability to build clean, professional decks and communication plans. Experience editing video for both short and long form content is necessary as well.

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: You are curious, intentional, and ready to take initiative with minimal supervision. You see a problem and naturally want to build a system to solve it.

  • Logistics: You must have access to reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout LA County for all in-person program events.

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Salary Range: $65,000–$70,000 (salaried, exempt) with eligibility for a performance bonus.

  • Health Benefits: We provide a dedicated insurance stipend designed to fully cover the cost of an average health insurance plan.

  • Paid Time Off: 30 total days of PTO annually (14 paid holidays, 10 PTO days, and 6 sick days).

Work Setting: Hybrid role based in Los Angeles County, requiring in-person participation 3-4 times per month. This includes program events and team workdays. This role is full-time with room for flexibility, and occasional weekend/after-hours events will be required.
