#GreaterThan Series
Real Stories From Foster Youth.
Why #GreaterThan?
#GreaterThan is a storytelling series built on the beliefs that:
Every foster youth is greater than the statistics used to define them.
Every young adult aging out of the system has the power to become greater than the circumstances they were born into.
All of us have the chance to be greater today than we were yesterday.
These aren't inspiration stories for the sake of it. They're proof that the statistics were never the whole story.
If you have experience in foster care, we’d love to hear your story.
Whether you’re reflecting on your experience in or aging out of foster care, sharing where you are today and what you’re working toward, or celebrating a recent win you’re proud of, your story matters—and we want to hear it.
As a thank you for sharing, we’ve partnered with One Simple Wish, an organization that grants wishes to individuals impacted by foster care. Our team will submit a wish on your behalf as a small token of our appreciation. Learn more at onesimplewish.org.

Elijah R. / Peer support is important
Something that Elijah experienced was the feeling of being alone and feeling like he wasn’t good enough like the “normal kids.”
Mona G. / Use your voice
Mona says, “When some days all I want to do is give up, I remember that there is someone out there that is waiting for someone like me to hold their hand and help, because maybe they are not as strong as I am to ask for help.”
Michael G. / Go above and beyond
Michael says that foster care “only increased [his] determination to succeed as [he] won’t let a setback put [him] down.”
Aaronn B. / Own your story
Aaronn says, “when you start to learn more of what got you into foster care, there may be times where you think it has something to do with you when in reality you had no control over the situation.”
Dairius K. / We all have the ability to grow
There were some dark days in his life when he was in 5th grade and some decisions even led him to attempt to take his own life. Coming out on the other side of this was a big takeaway for him: “Your life is precious and is a beautiful gift. You are the only one that can set the limits on what you want to achieve in life.”
Alina G. / Reach for what seems like the impossible
Being a foster youth has impacted my determination tremendously. As weird as it may sound, I would not be where I am today if I did not endure what I had.
Areli G. / Focus on the light
A quote that kept me going was: "It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light." -Aristotle
Agustina P. / Never lose hope
Never lose hope — that there's always amazing people that love us and care for us through our journey.
