#GreaterThan Series
Real Stories From Foster Youth.
Why #GreaterThan?
#GreaterThan is a storytelling series built on the beliefs that:
Every foster youth is greater than the statistics used to define them.
Every young adult aging out of the system has the power to become greater than the circumstances they were born into.
All of us have the chance to be greater today than we were yesterday.
These aren't inspiration stories for the sake of it. They're proof that the statistics were never the whole story.
If you have experience in foster care, we’d love to hear your story.
Whether you’re reflecting on your experience in or aging out of foster care, sharing where you are today and what you’re working toward, or celebrating a recent win you’re proud of, your story matters—and we want to hear it.
As a thank you for sharing, we’ve partnered with One Simple Wish, an organization that grants wishes to individuals impacted by foster care. Our team will submit a wish on your behalf as a small token of our appreciation. Learn more at onesimplewish.org.

Dinah A. / Resilience and Self-Discovery
“Allow yourself to open up and to remember that Foster care system is here to help not harm… you got a whole life ahead of you and things can change for the better and grow into something more great and beautiful.”
Latoshia A. / Never Too Late To Learn
"Education is important, and it's never too late to learn anything in life," she affirms.
Tyeresha B. / The Key is to Love Yourself
"Don't build up judgments from the past to ruin who you are today.
Jasmine J. / Don't expect us to act like "normal" kids
“Regular kids leave for doctors appointments while foster kids leave for court. Regular kids get one-on-one time with their parents while foster kids have to have a stranger in their room supervising their interactions.”
Maria G. / Living in survival mode
“You can’t control what has happened, but you can control your future and what you want to plan for yourself. You owe it to yourself to push through and make your dreams come true.”
Karina A. / Being forced into independence
Karina feels that her independence allowed her to be more vocal and forced her not to shy away from new opportunities. She is able to socialize and is not afraid to speak up.
Mareena P. / You are stronger than you know
Mareena wasn’t sure about what meals she’d be eating because the woman at the group home didn’t cook. She had anxiety about how long she would be there.
Isabel R. / The stress of sibling separation
Isabel says that her foster parents “could never image what it was like to be thinking about your siblings and not having any idea what they were doing, who they lived with, where they were, or how they were holding up.”
